King Harbor Sea Fair – Redondo Beach

by Jackie Balestra

Every spring, King Harbor Yacht Club hosts the annual Sea Fair in beautiful Redondo Beach located in the South Bay of Southern California.

This free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to prepare for the summer boating season, while highlighting educational and recreational opportunities available in King Harbor and Redondo Marina.

A central stage features live music and entertainment throughout the day. Guests will enjoy a variety of food and beverages available for purchase and a raffle offering a chance to win dozens of prizes.

The event is sponsored by over 60 local participating organizations and offers an array of boat and marine displays. Sea Fair features a variety of water activities for guests to enjoy while promoting safe boating practices and environmental awareness.

Attendees are encouraged to man the oars of an outrigger canoe, experience the thrill of sailing, take a ride on the whale-watching vessel Voyager, or try out the world’s fastest growing watersport, stand-up paddle boarding.

Two separate Kids Zones will keep the little ones busy with arts and crafts, face painting, games and bounce houses.

A time honored beach tradition, the Sand Sculpting Contest, is hosted by Sand Sculptors International, one of the world’s leading companies in this popular art form. The contest is for both beginner and advanced teams with the winners announced later in the day.

A highlight of the afternoon is the Coast Guard rescue display. A Coast Guard cutter or helicopter demonstrates a ‘man overboard’ water rescue right in the harbor. Guests are invited to tour the vessel after the demonstration.

The LA Conservation Corps SEA Lab facility offers marine life presentations, feedings, environmental and conservation displays and kids of all ages will acquire hands-on experience with touch tanks full of sea creatures!

Guests are also invited to board the Tall Ship moored in the harbor for a free tour, or sign up for a sunset sail. These majestic vessels from a by-gone era are a joy to explore and their voyages are an excellent educational adventure for all ages.

Sea Fair provides a day of fun and adventure the whole family will enjoy–and it’s just one more reason to Live in California.
